Cortezz Nixon Interview
By Red Zone Insider
I hope you will enjoy this interview. I think you will it thought provoking.
Cortezz is 5-10, 180, with a 40-time of 4.49
For people who do not know your story, how did you end up choosing Charlotte?
I actually started my college career at Lenoir Rhyne because UNC Charlotte didn’t have a team yet. So I went there and redshirted my freshmen year. After spending a year there I transferred to UNC-Charlotte. My first year here we just practiced for a full year before we started actually playing games.
Since you are from a smaller school, How do you plan on making yourself stand out?
Just by my performance, I’m going to let my work I do on the field speak for me.
What separates you from the other players at your position?
Some DB’s don’t want to come up and tackle, and I think that’s what separates me because I don’t mind at all coming up and getting physical.
Is their a specific NFL player that you try to model your game after?
Joe Haden, just because we are pretty much the same size and the swagger that he has and plays with is what I try to resemble my game after.
Who is the toughtest player you'ved ever faced in your career?
Matt Hazel a WR for the Miami Dolphins
How do you prepare for game day, and do you have any game day rituals?
On game days I like to just stay to myself and listen to music. I feel like that is the best way to keep my loose and focused at the same time.
What was your favorite play/moment at Charlotte?
My favorite moment or play at UNC-Charlotte was actually being on the field on the first ever play in school history. It was just a atmosphere that can never be replayed.
What would you say are your strengths and weaknesses?
My strength would be my I.Q of the game, and I would say my weakness is catching sometime. Out of 10 passes I’ll probably catch 7, but I know I need to get that to at least 9 out of 10.
Coming out of high school, what programs showed interest in you?
I wasn’t the biggest guy coming out of high school the only major FBS program was Duke and that wasn’t anything major, just a letter here and there. I had a lot of D2 programs showing interest. Some was D2 powerhouses such as Lenoir Rhyne and Carson Newman. I pretty much had interest from every D2 SAC school coming out of high school.
What areas of your game are you trying to improve?
Ball skills
What do you enjoy most about football?
The fact that it’s the ultimate team sport and the bond you develop with your teammates is something that can’t be found anywhere else. Also it’s the most physical sport in the world to.
What is the most important trait for a Wide Receiver?
The most important trait is for a WR is catching the ball, if you ask me.
Finish the sentence, Cortezz Nixon is?
Cortezz Nixon is a hard working, passionate player who is trying to turn his childhood dream into a career.
What makes you an unique individual?
The thing that makes me unique is that I can adapt to pretty much any situation.
Which underclassman on your team should people keep an eye on?
On offense Kalif Phillips, he a power back with speed, and on defense Daquan Lucas, he is a OLB but can play in the secondary at the next and he bring a lot of speed and physicality.
Do you think playing for a small school helps or hurts you as you try to climb the charts among the top Receivers in the nation?
I actually play CB, but being from a CUSA school hurts some because we don’t get as much exposure as the power 5 schools.
We Would like to thank Cortezz for doing this interview.

Janawski Davis Interview
By Barb Layton
I think you will be find this interview to be a good read. He is a responsible person who wants to take football to a whole new level and be a leader at the same time.
Janawski is 5-7 170
For people who do not know your story, how did you end up choosing Murray State?
I had limited offers and Murray state had offered me at a UK camp. I took a visit and loved the campus, so I made my commitment
Since you are from a smaller school, How do you plan on making yourself stand out?
I plan on making myself standout in speed and ability. I want to play all Special Teams and be very dominant.
What separates you from the other players at your position?
Something that separates me from other players are my quickness, routes, and the ability to get in and out of routes.
How do you prepare for game day, and do you have any game day rituals?
My ritual on Gameday is pretty generic, music playing through my headphones.
What was your favorite play/moment at Murray State?
My favorite moment at Murray State was after the Louisville game, where I racked up 100 yards and 2 touchdowns with just 5 catches.
What would you say are your strengths and weaknesses?
My strength is good releases in press or man to man defense
Coming out of high school, what programs showed interest in you?
Coming out of high school, Jacksonville state, the Navy, and Tennessee Tech showed interests, but only one offered.
What areas of your game are you trying to improve?
One area I want to improve in is Scoring the long ball or TD's for 80 plus yards.
What was your childhood like?
My child hood was fortunate. I did not have the latest wear or Jordans, but I did possess a great family with wonderful parents.
What do you enjoy most about football?
Football has its own life, when playing ball, all other troubles or problems does not matter anymore.
What is the most important trait for a Wide Receiver?
Football is a break from the real world. The most important trait for a WR is detailed routes.
Finish the sentence, Janawski Davis is?
Janawski Davis is a strong minded young man who will not be denied.
Which underclassman on your team should people keep an eye on?
The underclassman on my team people should keep their eye on is Marquez Sanford. He's a smaller guy, plays corner but he is very skilled at what he does.
Juquelle Thompson Interview
By Red Zone Insider
I hope you will enjoy reading the interview. He is a very unique individual who really knows what is important in life.
Juquelle is 6-0 175 with a 40 time of 4.40
For people who do not know your story, how did you end up choosing Fort Lewis?
played at city college of san Francisco for 2 years and I spent an extra year to get my AA degree, I was told my clock is running out for D1 so D2 was my only option, Coach John L. Smith called me up and asked if I wanted to play for FLC and I told him I need to finish a few classes before I can accept the offer but id love for the opportunity to play ball again. I finished the classes with outstanding grades and called coach up to see if he still had the offer for me and that's how I ended up at FLC.Since you are from a smaller school, How do you plan on making yourself stand out?
I don't believe anyone is better than I am just because they played at a higher level than I did, I am a ball player and I have been since I was 7 and scouts will see that when I am on the field doing me!
What separates you from the other players at your position?
I'm versatile, I can throw the ball & I can return kicks and punts
Is their a specific NFL player that you try to model your game after?
Deandre Hopkins, he runs precise routes and he attacks the ball I wouldn't say I try to model his game or anyone else but I love the way he competes, and if I can be on his level I think i'm alright.
Who is the toughest player you have ever faced in your college career?
C.J Roberts because he was the most athletic and because it was my first game in D2
How do you prepare for game day, and do you have any game day rituals?
watch highlights of other players and listen to music
What was your favorite play/moment at Fort Lewis?
beating #2 CSU Pueblo during my first start at FLC and had the game winning touchdown and following up 4 days later with 2 touchdowns against #12 Colorado Mines on FLC first ever national tv game
What would you say are your strengths and weaknesses?
speed, finesse, awareness, big play ability, competiveness my weakness would probably be my strength
Coming out of high school, what programs showed interest in you?
SJSU, Nevada, Fresno St
What areas of your game are you trying to improve?
hand fighting to create separation
What was your childhood like?
10 steps forward 5 steps back. some how some way something would try to hold me back if it was moving schools/homes to only having one parent to winning championships to standing out being the only black kid in class in elementary to being one of many in high school it was a rollercoaster. but its what made me who I am today, my live hasn't had a dull moment and I cant say that's a bad thing!
What do you enjoy most about football?
if it isn't the fans showing all their emotions good or bad its how you feel after making a big play in critical moments.
What is the most important trait for a Wide Receiver?
running the right route with the correct depth and most importantly catching the ball.
Finish the sentence, Jaquelle Thompson is?
going to be successful!
What makes you an unique individual?
everything ive been through, some would say I shouldn't be in this position now. its a blessing to be apart of this process
Which underclassman on your team should people keep an eye on?
RS freshman CB Malcolm Wright I went against him all year long because he was on scout and he was the one corner with the brightest upside
Using one word how would you describe your style of play?
Finesse
We would like to thank Juquelle for doing this interview.

Azziz Higgins Interview
By Barb LaytonI think you will find the interview with Azziz to be encouraging. He seems to be a leader and know what he wants to do with his future. He has a good understanding of the game of football and wants people to see their are many excellent players at a small school. He feels they all need a chance to succeed.
6-2, 231, 40 time 4.65
For people who do not know your story, how did you end up choosing Gardner Webb?
Well I wasn't highly recruited out of high school even though I played for a very good program but after my senior season I took 2 trips one to the citadel and one to Gardner-Webb University, I had my mind set on going to Citadel but when I called to commit they told me they weren't giving any more scholarships for linebackers. I was crushed, I really had my sights set on going to this school. So the next day I committed to Gardner-Webb University and I feel like I came in with a chip on my shoulder and I was going to prove every school who over looked me wrong. I'm glad I chose Gardner-Webb University because it's taught me so much and has giving me the much needed development as player. It's been a true blessing.
Since you are from a smaller school, How do you plan on making yourself stand out?
They way I plan to stand out is showing the scouts that not only I am quick, fast, and strong but I am also a very intelligent player and I feel that scouts, coaches, GMs, etc really value an intelligent football player.
What separates you from the other players at your position?
I feel it's my consistency, once I get going there's really no breaking my rhythm and that helps me make clear decisions and be around the ball a lot
Is their a specific NFL player that you try to model your game after?
There is no specific one, but I do like the way Navarro Bowman, Lavonte David, Thomas Davis, and Luke Kuechly play the game, they are great linebackers.
Who is the toughest player you have ever faced in your college career?
Toughest player had to be a RB from UNCC, he was a hard runner
How do you prepare for game day, and do you have any game day rituals?
If I have a really good game I try to repeat exactly what I did the week before and also I always listen to drake before I take the field
What was your favorite play/moment at Gardner Webb?
My favorite moment at Gardner-Webb had to be when we beat Liberty University for homecoming for the first time since I been at the school and they were like our rivals plus it meant everything to my position coach who was apart of the program for 15 years.
What would you say are your strengths and weaknesses?
One of my strengths are intelligence and one my weaknesses are being more patient during the beginning of a play
Coming out of high school, what programs showed interest in you?
Kentucky, Purdue, Citadel, Lafayette, Navy, Central Florida, and Lenoir Ryan is all I can remember so the schools that showed me love was all over the place in terms of division.
What areas of your game are you trying to improve?
I want to improve in all aspect of my game because the next level is a different animal and I feel like that I should strive to be the better in ever part of my game, not just one.
What was your childhood like?
My childhood was filled with of big family invents and spending a lot of time with my siblings. Spending time with my siblings was what I did mostly because I have 7 siblings so I was never alone.
What do you enjoy most about football?
I enjoy being able to make long-term friendships with men you grind with everyday. Also the atmosphere of game day is like no other.
What is the most important trait for a Linebacker?
Intelligence and instincts
Finish the sentence, Azziz Higgins is?
Azziz Higgins is a who he is and if you ever get a chance to meet him enjoy
What makes you an unique individual?
What makes me unique is the fact that I don't try an follow the pack, I try and find my own way.
Which underclassman on your team should people keep an eye on?
I say look at the whole team, there is loads of talent that gets over looked here at Gardner-Webb
Using one word how would you describe your style of play?
Consistent

I think you will find this interview to be an eye opener. He has good knowledge of what he wants out of football and his life in general.
He is 6-0 200
For people who do not know your story, how did you end up choosing Middle Tennessee State?
Middle Tennessee was one of my few offers coming out of high school. They immediately stood out to me because of how often they would send me letters and visit my school. After my official visit, everything about the school felt right, so I decided to commit there.
Since you are from a smaller school, How do you plan on making yourself stand out?
My performaces at the combines and pro day will make me stand out. I will show the scouts that no matter how small the school, I can still compete with the best.
What separates you from the other players at your position?
My physicality and my ability to read coverages sets me apart from most receivers. My work ethic seperates me from others at my position along with my explosiveness and strength.
Is their a specific NFL player that you try to model your game after?
I like to model my game after Julio Jones. But I see myself more like Roddy White.
Who is the toughest player you have ever faced in your college career?
Toughest player was probably Marlon Humphery, Alabama CB or Darius Slay, Mississippi State CB (Detroit Lions)
How do you prepare for game day, and do you have any game day rituals?
On game day I listen to music, stretch, and zone everything else out.
What was your favorite play/moment at Middle Tennessee State?
Favorite play was the last second vertical play to beat Marshall as the clock hit 0 in 2013. Favorite moment was when we beat Georgia Tech 49-28 at their stadium in 2012.
What would you say are your strengths and weaknesses?
Strengths-
My ability to get off of press coverage, I have great hands, crisp routes, explosive, can find holes in zone coverage, and the ability to attack the ball at the highest point.
Weaknesses-
I would like to work on my top end speed. I have good acceleration, but I want to become faster down the field.
Coming out of high school, what programs showed interest in you?
Middle Tennessee, Arkansas State, South Alabama, UAB, and Troy showed interest coming out of high school.
What areas of your game are you trying to improve?
I want to improve my top end speed and becoming a little quicker.
What was your childhood like?
I had a pretty good childhood with great parents to guide the way. There were many ups and downs, but It has made me the person I am today.

I'm unique because I not only want to be the best receiver, but I want to be the best at whatever I do in life.
Using one word how would you describe your style of play?
Aggressive.
Describe your overall career?
