What We Have Learned About The Steelers Defense In The First Quarter

By Red Zone Insider

Defensive MVP: Cam Hayward- Cam is not only the leader on the field but his stats are constantly continuing to grow year. You cannot say enough about his leadership role. He is always ready to give support and encouragement. If he feels you are not giving your best, he will let you know that too. He is able to do this because everyone knows he is always giving his best and he just wants them to give their best.

Honorable Mention: Lawrence Timmons- Lawrence is also a leader on the field, but he does it in a much quieter  way than Cam. Law Dog always put significant numbers up each year. The other players want to emulate him. He too likes to help the your men to continue to improve in their craft.

Biggest Disappointment: Jarvis Jones- It is not that he has played terribly but he is not playing up to his potential again this year. James Harris is still playing at a high level. Jarvis is just not picking it up even though he has been playing for 3 years. He needs to prove that he is worthy of getting more playing time in the 2nd and 3rd quarters.

Biggest Improvement: Mike Mitchell- Last year Mike was such a big disappointment. I had wondered why the Steelers even signed him then at the end of the season we learned about the 2 groin tears. He couldn't keep up with the offensive players and the big hits were lacking. This year he is playing like the Mike that played in Carolina. He is hitting and not caring what anyone thinks not even the officials. He is going to play the game at a high level of intensity.

Surprising stat: Stephon Tuitt- His stats are impressive. He has 3.5 sacks in the first quarter. His constant pressure is resulting in tackles for loss. I hope he will continue to improve in the next 2 quarters.
