Steelers Surprises and MVP By Week 11

By Barb Layton

Biggest Surprises

Defense: Antwon Blake He has the Steeler attitude when it comes to playing corner. He is not the biggest guy on the team. He has to fight to keep his job. He has 59 tackles (49 solo, 10 assist) 1 fumble, 2 interceptions (112 Yards) and 1 touchdown. He has been hurt most of the year and he is still giving you great play.

Offense: DeAngelo Williams He is playing great football. It was thought he would come in for LeVeon during his suspension. No one expected LeVeon to be out for the season. He has a good football IQ. He is older but he still has the ability and quickness to get into the open field and get you a big gain. His catching ability is better than I thought it was. He just needs to be able to have a breather from time to time. I have been very pleased with his performance.

Special Teams: Chris Boswell He came in and took over a very defective kicking game. He had to prove on a Monday night before a national audience that he can make it in the NFL. He is like money in the bank. It has been great to have him on this team. He seems to have ice for blood. Nothing them to bother him when he goes out there.

MVP offense: Ben Roethlisberger He is a powerful quarterback with the ability to throw anywhere on the field. He has great weapons around him and he will become even greater each game in the remaining  part of the season. He has the leadership quality that a quarterback needs in this league.

MVP defense: Lawrence Timmons This was a difficult choice. Mike Mitchell and Cam Hayward also could fall into this category. I went with Timmons because he is the only defensive player in the league that has played every snap for there team. He is always out there and gives you his very best. He has done this even though he has had a bad toe this year. Love his effort.

MVP special teams: Greg Warren He has not made a mistake yet this season. Also the long snapper usually does not get the respect for the job he does  So that is my reasoning for giving him this title. Boswell, Berry and Nix could have also be considered for this position.
